What does a Postpartum Doula do?

Traditionally, families lived in villages in close proximity to one another. This arrangement provided a community of support to help care for the mother and baby after birth.

In today’s modern society, the majority of families live in single-family homes isolated from their communities, leaving newborn mothers alone to navigate the postpartum period.

This is where we come in. It is our joy as Doulas to provide nurturing and loving care to women and their families. We center the mother and ensure that she is nourished and cared for, so that her family can thrive.

You deserve to thrive in your postpartum, not just survive.

Our expertise in newborn care means that very few things surprise us, and we are able to provide you with community resources if the assistance you need goes beyond what we can do together in a home setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We want every client who works with us to have an amazing experience. You are coming to us at a pivotal moment in your life and we want to contribute to making you feel loved and cared for.

Our standards for our team are high, so we aren’t the biggest agency around, but all of our doulas are amazing at what they do.

Kaitlyn meets with all prospective clients and personally pairs each client with the doula most suitable for them.

We put you in contact with your doula immediately, so you know who will be working with you.

You have a team supporting you at Wild Mother Path. The doula working with you is an expert in newborn care and your primary support; however, please always feel free to reach out directly to Kaitlyn. She loves supporting new mothers and has a wealth of knowledge she’s gained over her years in a NICU as a registered nurse, in pediatric primary care as a nurse practitioner, and as a Birth Keeper and doula.

  • We recommend you book as soon as you know you will want doula support. We are constantly getting client inquiries and we can’t reserve your doula until you have booked your package.

If you specifically want to work with a Registered Nurse or Newborn Care Specialist, you will need to book as soon as possible. If you are flexible on the certifications/qualifications of your doula (all our doulas are amazing), you are likely okay to wait a little bit, but once you enter the second trimester, our doulas’ schedules start to become fully booked around your due date.

  • This can be difficult to figure as so much will change when your baby is born. It’s helpful to think in terms of how many days/nights/hours you will need per week, and how many weeks of support you think you will want.

We support the full spectrum of client needs. Some clients book one night per week to just have a little extra help and other clients want help daily. Some clients just want a few weeks and others want several months. If you are wanting to discuss how many hours you should book, it may be helpful to schedule an introductory call with Kaitlyn.

  • We pair each client with a specific doula. This means our doula blocks her schedule when a client is confirmed. If a doula will be working with you, she is not available for other prospective clients. Because of this, we require a 20% nonrefundable deposit at the time of booking.

  • Yes. Twins are wonderful; however, they are much more work for our doulas. There is a 20% additional fee for twins.

  • Every schedule is completely based on your needs and your doula’s availability. If you would like your doula on a major holiday, a holiday rate is charged and the rate will be communicated in advance.

Major holidays include New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

With the exception of Independence Day, holiday rates apply to night shifts starting on the evening before the holiday and day shifts starting on the holiday. On Independence Day, holiday rates apply to all shifts starting on the holiday.
