Our Process
The first step is to pick up your placenta from your home or birthplace.
Before processing your placenta, your placenta will be visually inspected for any abnormalities and it will be rinsed with water to remove any clots.
Next, your placenta will be steamed, if requested. The traditional Chinese medicine method involves steaming the placenta prior to dehydration. Steaming is completely optional at no additional cost.
Your placenta is then sliced into small strips and dehydrated overnight.
Your dehydrated placenta is then ground into a fine powder which will be placed into vegan capsules.
If selected, a tincture is made by placing a small piece of your placenta in a high proof alcohol.
The average placenta makes between 100 and 150 vitamin capsules.
Choosing Whether to Steam Your Placenta
In traditional Chinese medicine, steaming is said to balance the yin and yang energies. Chinese culture also believes this method is helpful in adding warming energies to the placenta. Herbs are often used, including ginger, lemon, black pepper, or chili, and are chosen based on the mother’s preference and dietary restrictions.
Note: Steaming the placenta may reduce its size and lead to fewer capsules.
Is Placenta Encapsulation Right for You?
Some cases in which I would recommend against the consumption of your placenta:
You or your baby are group B strep positive at birth
Your placenta is taken to pathology/contaminated
You have an infection/fever during labor or chorioamnionitis (inflammation/infection of the membranes and chorion of the placenta).
Placenta encapsulation has not been approved by the FDA. Each woman must make her own decision if placenta encapsulation is the right choice for her health.
